It is a lonely day. I am eating a quiche and my shirt features a monkey wearing a bowler hat. I'm thinking about writing a longer entry about my trip last week (which was fabulous and contained: Train Adventures! Hamlet feat. lesbians! Pirate-obsessed cabbies! Rain! And more!), but since I'm working on a fic right now I'll share a silly anecdote instead.

It was my most memorable moment on public transportation so far. It happened last year when I was living in the beautiful city of Bath. I'd never actually used public transportation on a regular basis, and I'm pretty sure I'd never been on a real bus in my life, so my initial experience was rife with insecurity and cultural faux pas. Learning the ins and outs of a transportation system is one thing, but learning them in another country in another monster altogether. I got used to it quickly enough, since you can pretty much walk across the entire city in half an hour. There weren't many bumps, aside from one time when I accidentally took the wrong bus after seeing this bizarre amateur play about Elizabeth I and ended up alone in the middle of the residential part of the city in the dead of night. That was fun.

So one time I was sitting on the bus, minding my own business, when an elderly Italian man got on and started speaking very loudly to nobody in general. He sat next to me and started talking about life and being in England and so on. It was amazing. He was just so loud and so Italian, and when he actually said "MAMMA MIA!" I almost choked. It was like listening to a caricature. He proclaimed to the bus at large that he liked me (I'd barely said anything to him), and I almost had another fit because you could just feel the discomfort of those poor English people who were trying SO HARD to ignore the loud Italian man. Oh, it was precious.

Anyways. Probably not as exciting as taking the subway on a daily basis, but...hnng, I love the world.

The next couple of weeks are going to be so busy and stressful. And then I'm going home.

Snow!!! I wish it was still here.

Official tour of Bath. This was a few weeks ago, but I've been really busy. The next video will hopefully be up soon too.

Today has been absolutely amazing. It's a crazy life.

Here's a bunch of Bath pictures, including the snow ones.

Sorry for all the shaking, but most of the video was taken while walking. Music: I Looked All Over Town - Magnetic Fields.

From the first day, January 23rd.

I landed in London at about 10 this morning (British time), and it's 7 now. I'm very tired and will write more tomorrow.
metatronis: (Wow)
Laptop stuff went back and forth between being fixed and not fixed, but I have a new laptop for the trip and all is well.

My brother and his gf made me a fabulous good luck card )

And for good measure:

I still don't have my computer back, and apparently it won't be ready until next week, just a few days before I leave. So that sucks. But Bean and Paul bought me a video camera, and hopefully I'll be able to do a video blog of some sort while I'm there.

Everything is going really fast now. I've been keeping a list of things to do/gather in anticipation, and I'm slowly getting through it.

Hope everyone had a ballin' holiday!
I meant to post and do a music dump a week ago but my laptop ac adapter sploded on me, so I was without a laptop for a while. It's all gravy now.
I got some nice stuff, a crapload of gift cards and I'm now freaking out about my wisdom teeth and preparing for the trip.
Speaking of which, I'm leaving the country in less that a month!! Holy crap.

In summary, merry holidays and I'll do the music post this weekend. Whoop.

A few things, because it's late and I'm up.

- Holy shit, I'm getting so pumped for Watchmen, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. The ONLY thing I'm really upset about regarding England is that I won't be with my friends for the midnight showing. We're having our first Bath meeting in a few weeks, so I've gotta try to scope out the nerds and convince them to go see Watchmen with me. *desperate*

- It started raining tonight!! First rain! THE NIGHT BEFORE NEIL!! Oh wow.
- I'm almost finished with the Graveyard Book. He's reading chapter 5 (Danse Macabre) for us tomorrow, and it's a really awesome chapter but also one of the shortest. I hope he remedies this by telling us countless anecdotes. The weird thing is that the last time I saw him in person, he said he was in the middle of writing that chapter.

- That politicians seem to have an incredibly hard time pronouncing "nuclear" correctly is...very disconcerting. Like, if a brain surgeon says "imma gunna break inta yur brain box" with a knife in their hand.

- I love glitter.

Just got my new passport! It was in the mail when I got home. It took about half the time that it did last time, in 2003.
This shit is happening!!

Imma study in England next Spring!!!

Real Late

OH MAN, I'm done.
Almost done. Two more weeks of actual school, then it's over forever until fall.

I was up until Real Lateā„¢ last night finishing a term paper, and by the time I was done, I had no idea what I'd written about. Like, seriously. Ten pages of complete crap. I think?
That's not a good feeling, but at least it's nearly over. The worst parts of the semester are behind, and the Bath stuff (interviews, acceptance) is going to start soon, so I'll know in a few weeks whether I should start planning. Holding my breath.

One month until my 21st birthday! I want a car made of ice cream! And no, those two things aren't related.
My eyes want to sleep but my body does not.

Dani told me to update today, so I will do this.

Spring break was nice. It's been a really stressful semester with almost NO breaks, so it's good to be lazy for a week, even though I still did some work and reading and stuff.

Yesterday we dined on garlic bread, jambalaya with meatless sausage, rum, sake and sangria wine coolers. It was amazing.

Today my friends and I went to the mall, and it was waaay too crowded. But something amazing happened! I actually found a bathing suit I like! I don't think that has ever happened before in my life. It's really cute. Yay!

But what is exciting in my life right now??? Well, next spring I may be studying abroad in England!! Bath, specifically. I'm extremely excited about this, and I have been planning the necessary steps all week. Bath is a lovely place, and it would be fantastic to go somewhere else by myself for a while, however scary it seems right now. I really hope I can work things out and get accepted into the program. Eee, nervous. I will give updates on this.

Dani and Jocelyn go home tomorrow. D: But I also remembered that we have Cesar Chavez day off. Hah!
